Watch Widespread Panic Perform ‘Space Wrangler’ & ‘Tall Boy’ At 25th Anniversary Run In 2011
Ten years ago today Widespread Panic opened a two-night stand at the Classic Center in their hometown of Athens to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary. Widespread Panic unveiled pro-shot video featuring “Space Wrangler” from the first show and “Tall Boy” from the next night.
Panic’s concerts in Athens on February 10 and 11, 2011 were followed by a show at Atlanta’s Fox Theater on February 14, 2011 to end the brief excursion. The sextet continues to roll out pro-shot videos from the Athens shows on YouTube.
“Space Wrangler,” an early Widespread Panic original and the title track from their first studio album, was played in the second set ten years ago today. The performance came after a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Fire On The Mountain” which marked WSP’s first “Fire” since October 2, 1988 — a span of 2,331 shows.
The group kicked off the second night in Athens with “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature” and then played “Tall Boy.” Widespread Panic debuted “Tall Boy” live on August 3, 1995. A studio version was included on 1997’s Bombs & Butterflies.
