Watch Widespread Panic Play ‘Bowlegged Woman’ At 25th Anniversary Run In 2011
A new day brings a new pro-shot video from Widespread Panic. The latest clip shared by the sextet features a performance of “Bowlegged Woman” played during the first night of a run celebrating their 25th anniversary at the Classic Center in Athens on February 10, 2011.
The hometown venue hosted Widespread Panic on February 10 and 11, 2011 before the band ended the run at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on February 14, 2011. Panic’s lineup at the time consisted of guitarists John Bell and Jimmy Herring, percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, drummer Todd Nance, keyboardist JoJo Hermann and bassist Dave Schools.
Widespread Panic ended their first set of the night and run with “Bowlegged Woman.” The 12-minute version includes a rap from JB, potent guitar leads from Herring, funky Clavinet via JoJo all atop a powerful base from the rhythm section of Sunny, Todd and Schools.
“Bowlegged Woman” was written by Calvin Nash and Bobby Rush. Hot Tuna included a cover of the song on their 1976 studio album, Hoppkorv. Widespread Panic debuted their rendition in 1987 and have played “Bowlegged Woman” live a total of 222 times through March 1, 2020 as per Everyday Companion.
