Watch Widespread Panic Perform ‘Blight’ At 25th Anniversary Run In 2011
Widespread Panic dug into their archives once again to share video featuring a performance of “Blight” on their YouTube channel. The “Blight” video was recorded on February 11, 2011, the second night of a run in celebration of the band’s 25th anniversary at The Classic Center in Athens, Georgia.
The lineup of guitarists John Bell and Jimmy Herring, bassist Dave Schools, percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, drummer Todd Nance and keyboardist JoJo Hermann kicked off the run with two shows in Athens, the city where the band was formed in 1986, on February 11 and 12, 2011. Widespread Panic then ended the brief tour at The Fox Theater in Atlanta on February 14, 2011.
“Blight” came within the second set of a show featuring WSP’s first covers of the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie” since 1989 and Moody Blues’ “Nights In White Satin” since 1987. The latter has yet to be performed again by the sextet.
Dave Schools handles lead vocals on “Blight,” a song he wrote with Nance, Michael Houser and Vic Chesnutt. A studio version of the song appears on Nine High A Pallet, the debut album from Panic and Chesnutt’s brute. project.
