Ween Announces Expanded ’12 Golden Country Greats’ 30th Anniversary Edition

Ween‘s 12 Golden Country Greats is getting the 30th anniversary deluxe treatment, set to arrive in vinyl, CD and digital formats on July 31 via Rhino. The expanded collection boasting over 20 unreleased demos and outtakes is previewed today with the previously unreleased track, “Bad Day In Brownsville.”

Released in 1996, 12 Golden Country Greats saw Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo) and Gene Ween (Aaron Freeman) hanging up their trusty Tascam four-track recorder and heading to Bradley’s Barn near Nashville to cut the album with producer Ben Vaughn.

In true Music City fashion, Dean and Gene tapped an ace group of Nashville session players known as The Shit Creek Boys to provide the instrumentation on the LP. Nashville session legends such as pianist Hargus “Pig” Robbins, fiddler Buddy Spicher and vocal group The Jordanaires backed up the duo on favorites like “Piss Up A Rope” and “I’m Holding You.” The upcoming deluxe edition includes a remastered version of the original record.

Despite the title, 12 Golden Country Greats, the final album contained 10 tracks. 12 Golden Country Greats (Deluxe Edition) gives fans those other two cuts: The Jerry Garcia tribute “So Long, Jerry” and “I’ve Got No Darkside.” The 36-song collection also contains outtakes including “Boston Chicken,” “Good Timing Rhyming Song” and a cover of the The Rolling Stones “Fool to Cry.”

Previewing 12 Golden Country Greats (Deluxe Edition) is another unreleased gem, “Bad Day In Brownsville.” Stream the rollicking rockabilly track below:
