Kevn Kinney performed at The Rialto Club in Athens on Tuesday night. The Drivin N Cryin co-founder was joined for a portion of the show by R.E.M. members Mike Mills and Peter Buck.
Buck accompanied Kinney throughout the concert in R.E.M.’s hometown. The set drew heavily from the Drivin N Cryin catalog, with Kinney opening on “With the People” and working through several more of the band’s songs. Kinney, who formed Drivin N Cryin in Atlanta in the mid-1980s, also played songs from his 1990 debut solo album, MacDougal Blues.
Mills joined Kinney and Buck for the final four offerings of the night. The trio performed a cover of the George Jones’ “Tall, Tall Trees,” before continuing with the Drivin N Cryin tracks “Honeysuckle Blue” and “Straight to Hell.” The evening closed with a cover of R.E.M.’s “Fall On Me.”
