Love was in the air last night as My Morning Jacket played the penultimate concert of their five-show “Come Home Again: A Celebration Of Louisville” run at The Louisville Palace Theater. The quintet continued to hold to their promise of no repeats by throwing down a performance filled with rarities, favorites and a guest appearance from opener and fellow Louisville native Maggie Halfman.
Frontman Jim James and bandmates bassist Tom Blankenship, guitarist Carl Broemel, drummer Patrick Hallahan and Bo Koster kicked off Tuesday night’s show with the tour debut of “Into The Woods.” The standout from Jacket’s 2005 album Z had only been played three times since 2012.

My Morning Jacket rolled on with a career-spanning run of “I’m Amazed,” “Heartbreakin Man,” “Compound Fracture,” “Lucky To Be Alive” and “Remnants” before looking to 2001’s At Dawn for a rare “Strangulation!” After the subsequent “In Color,” the five-piece served up the tour’s first “Death Is The Sleezy Way.”
Next, Halfman emerged to lead the band through her song “Come On.” More tour debuts — “Climbing The Ladder,” “Rollin Back” and “Thin Line” came soon after. The latter was last played on March 5, 2018. Yet a bigger bust out followed a few songs later, when MMJ covered Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” for the first time since New Year’s Eve 2017. “Gideon” then closed out the main set.
Jim James and Carl Broemel returned to start the encore with a “I Will Be There When You Die” duet. The rest of the band was then back in place as My Morning Jacket romped through “State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.),” “Holdin On To Black Metal” and “Love Love Love” to punctuate the show.
My Morning Jacket concludes the hometown celebration tonight, April 30. Watch fan-captured video of last night’s full 23-song show below:
