Gov’t Mule wil ring in 2027 in a new city. Warren Haynes and company announced they’ll bring their annual New Year’s Eve celebration to Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on December 31, marking the first time in more than 20 years the band’s signature holiday tradition won’t take place in New York City.
Billed as “Gov’t Mule & Friends,” the special performance will feature an all-star lineup of guests already including Haynes’ former Allman Brothers Band bandmates Jaimoe and Marc Quinones, fellow ABB alum Chuck Leavell, former Black Crowes members Steve Gorman and Audley Freed, Reese Wynans and Kevn Kinney. Additional guests are expected to be announced.
Gov’t Mule launched its themed New Year’s Eve celebrations in 2002, making the annual event a fan-favorite tradition built around surprise collaborations, special guests and diverse themes. After two decades at the Beacon Theatre (NYE 2008 was held at the Hammerstein Ballroom while the Beacon was undergoing renovations), Haynes said the time was right to start a new chapter by bringing the celebration to Boston.
“Playing the Beacon Theatre in New York City for New Year’s Eve has been amazing for the past 20 years but now it’s time to try something new,” explained Haynes. “Boston has always been an amazing audience for us. We’re excited to open a new chapter. It’s gonna be fantastic to have a lot of our friends and special guests there with us blowing it out.”
A fan club presale begins Tuesday, August 11, with local promoter, venue and partner presales available Wednesday, August 12 at 12 p.m. ET. The general on-sale starts Friday, August 14 at 12 p.m. ET. All pre-sale and VIP ticket buyers will receive a limited-edition commemorative and collectible NYE ticket.
Gov’t Mule brings their summer tour to Atlantic City tonight, August 7, before rejoining Joe Bonamassa for a series of shows. The current run will be followed by a fall tour with Ziggy Marley.
