My Morning Jacket Covers Cymande With Preservation Hall Jazz Band At One Big Holiday

My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday destination event kicked off at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida. The band’s first of three shows featured members of fellow fest performers Preservation Hall Jazz Band joining MMJ on a cover of Cymande’s “Bra.”

One Big Holiday is being held in the United States for the first time this year after previous editions in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. My Morning Jacket are touring in support of their recently released studio album, is, and performed four songs off the record during their set on Thursday. One of those songs, “Time Wasted,” opened their show.

A few songs into the set, frontman Jim James led his cohorts through Brian Wilson’s “Love and Mercy,” as an intro into “Masterplan.” Later in the performance, guitarist Carl Broemel took the helm on his song, “4th Of July.”

Singer-songwriter Tyler Ramsey, who is on the OBH 2025 lineup, came out near the end of MMJ’s set to accompany the band on “Golden.”

After capping the main set with “Wasted,” James, Broemel, bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan and keyboardist Bo Koster retook the festival stage with members of Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The encore started with the guests joining Jacket on “Highly Suspicious.”

Next came the cover of Cymande’s “Bra.” The song appeared on the influential British funk-fusion group’s 1972 self-titled album. Pres Hall stuck around for a subsequent “Holdin On to Black Metal.”
