Grace Bowers Begins New Era With Debut EP ‘Grace’ & Biting ‘Eat Shit And Live’ Single

Grace Bowers is embarking on a new chapter. The acclaimed guitarist announced her debut solo EP, Grace, due November 5, and shared its blistering lead single, “Eat Shit And Live,” marking her emergence as a vocalist and songwriter in addition to the instrumental prowess that initially brought her attention.

Produced by Mike Elizondo (Turnstile, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Lake Street Dive), Grace finds the 20-year-old drawing inspiration from the riot grrrl movement, ’90s grunge, punk and hard rock while incorporating modern pop sensibilities. Many of the songs were written during sessions at Elizondo’s studio, where Bowers credited the producer with helping refine her vision while preserving her identity as an artist.

“He can do everything,” Bowers said of Elizondo. “He makes sure to capture what the artist sounds like. I love that about him. And he knows what a song needs. His brain thinks of things that my brain would never have thought of. We mesh very well together.”

While Bowers has already built an impressive résumé that includes Grammy performances, late-night television appearances and collaborations with likes of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trey Anastasio, Peter Frampton and Gary Clark Jr., she sees Grace as the true beginning of her artistic identity.

“It’s the start of a new era for me,” Bowers said. “A year ago on this day, I wasn’t even really singing live at my concerts. And now, if you see my show, it’s a completely different thing than what I was doing before. It’s a real rock show.”

Bowers previewed the six-song collection with “Eat Shit And Live,” a fuzz-heavy rocker she described as “a sarcastic, angry song about me being fed up with stupid people, pretty much.” The song’s title originated from a note Bowers had saved on her phone months before the writing session that produced the track. While searching through old lyric ideas to pair with a guitar riff from a voice memo, the phrase jumped out at her.

“I scrolled through all the random shit I have in there, and that one just stuck out to me,” Bowers explained. “The song came together in an hour or two. It just flowed.”
