Watch Billy Joel Welcome Elvis Costello For ‘Pump It Up’ & ‘Allentown’ At Madison Square Garden

Elvis Costello joined Billy Joel for two songs last night during the 97th show of The Piano Man’s record-breaking residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Costello emerged towards the middle of the set to lead Joel and his band through “Pump It Up” and then dueted with Billy on “Allentown.”

Tuesday’s concert was Billy Joel’s 143rd lifetime show at “The World’s Most Famous Arena.” Joel began his monthly residency at The Garden in January 2014. The unprecedented run will end on July 25, 2024 with Joel’s 150th performance at the venue.

Elvis Costello wasn’t the only guest to perform with Billy Joel last night. Joel’s youngest daughters came out early in the show clad in festive attire to sing a holiday classic. Della Rose, 8, and Remy Anne, 6, joined their dad on “Jingle Bells.” Joel went on to work in portions of “Deck The Halls,” “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Silent Night” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” among a collection of his biggest hits.

Costello’s appearance was the latest in a long line of all-star guests to team with Joel during his MSG residency. Past guests have included Paul Simon, Miley Cyrus, Billy Gibbons, John Mellencamp, Chick Corea, John Mayer, Sting, Olivia Rodrigo, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson and Kevin Bacon.

The Billy Joel/Elvis Costello collaboration began with a performance of the latter’s 1978 classic “Pump It Up.” Next came “Allentown” off Joel’s 1982 album The Nylon Curtain.
