Watch Billy Joel Perform ‘Los Angelenos’ For 1st Time Since 1981

Billy Joel played the 89th show of his monthly residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City last night. The residency has given The Piano Man a chance to explore his back catalog along with a bevy of hits, but he took the deep diving up a notch on Tuesday by dusting off “Los Angelenos” for the first time in nearly 42 years.

Joel wrote his ode to the City of Angels while living in Los Angeles in the ’70s. Originally released on his 1974 studio album, Streetlife Serenade, a live version appeared on 1981’s Songs In The Attic. Billy Joel played “Los Angelenos” live seven times between October 3, 1976 and July 1, 1981 as per Setlist.FM before shelving the song.

“We never do this song. We haven’t done this since the ’80s, I think, so we’ll give it a shot,” Joel alerted the audience last night after his seventh song of the concert. “This is called ‘Los Angelenos.” Billy Joel and his band nailed the deep cut.

Tuesday’s concert was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 22. The show was postponed due to the NHL playoffs.

Billy Joel delivered a 25-song performance at MSG last night. He fit in plenty of his greatest hits including “My Life,” “Allentown,” “New York State Of Mind,” “Scenes From An Italian Resturant” and “Piano Man.” The Long Island native ended the night by reeling off “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” “Uptown Girl,” “It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me,” “Big Shot” and “You May Be Right” as the encore.

The residency continues on May 5.
