Billy Joel Sets Final Date Of Madison Square Garden Residency

Billy Joel will bring his record-breaking residency at Madison Square Garden to a close with his 150th lifetime show at the New York City venue on July 25, 2024. Joel, MSG’s first musical “franchise,” began the run back in January 2014.

The unprecedented residency will have included a total of 104 shows after the July performance. Billy Joel first played Madison Square Garden on December 14, 1978. He set a record in 2006 with 12 consecutive concerts at the venue. Phish’s “Baker’s Dozen” residency broke the record in 2017.

While the NYC-born and Long Island-raised musician has packed each concert of the residency with hits, the run has also given him the opportunity to dive deep into his repertoire. An example came this past April when Billy Joel dusted off “Los Angelenos” from his 1974 album Streetlife Serenade for the first time since 1981.

Special guests have also been a regular occurance at Billy Joel’s MSG residency concerts. Paul Simon, Miley Cyrus, Billy Gibbons, John Mellencamp, Chick Corea, John Mayer, Sting, Olivia Rodrigo, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Foreigner’s Mick Jones & Lou Gramm and Kevin Bacon are among those who have made appearances with Joel during the run.
