Tedeschi Trucks Band brought their Deuces Wild Tour to Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on Friday and Saturday nights. The 12-piece ensemble worked a pair of Prince songs into the concerts as they played a recently debuted cover of “1999” on Friday and premiered their take on “D.M.S.R.” to kick off Saturday’s second set.
Both songs were originally released by Prince on his famed 1982 studio album, 1999. TTB vocalist Mike Mattison sang lead on the blues-laced renditions of “1999” and “D.M.S.R.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s debut performances at the Kings Theatre came hot on the heels of a two-night stand at New York City's Beacon Theatre. While the group co-helmed by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks have now played 58 total shows at the historic venue on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, this past weekend’s concerts marked their only performances in Brooklyn outside a special night at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House in February of 2019.
The Mattison-sung “D.M.S.R.” followed a first set that included such fan favorites as “Learn How To Love,” “Anyhow,” “Do I Look Worried” and “Let Me Get By.” Mike Mattison belted out The Purple One’s lyrics as drummers Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell and Isaac Eady provided a strong backbeat. Keyboardist Gabe Dixon and guitarist Derek Trucks each delivered fierce solos before the final chorus.

The second set rolled on with “La Di Da” and “Last Night In The Rain” off the group’s 2022 album cycle I Am The Moon split by a cover of Junior Wells’ “Little By Little.” Tedeschi Trucks Band then threw down just their second full cover of The Allman Brothers Band instrumental “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” of 2024. Next came a run of beloved originals “Part Of Me,” “Midnight In Harlem” and “Made Up Mind” along with the Tedeschi-fronted medley of “Angel From Montgomery” and “Sugaree.”
An “I Want More” that gave way to Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice” closed out the frame. Tedeschi Trucks Band wrapped the night with an encore featuring their medley of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing A Simple Song” and “I Want To Take You Higher.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band now heads to New England for three shows in Tedeschi’s hometown of Boston and a concert in Providence. The Deuces Wild Tour returns to New York for a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester on October 8 and 9. Free livestreams of TTB at The Capitol Theatre are available for nugs.net subscribers as well as members of the TTB fan club Swamp Family.
