Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Anders Beck, Margo Price & Little Feat At SPAC

Tedeschi Trucks Band made the penultimate stop of their Deuces Wild Summer Tour on Friday and Saturday nights at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs, New York. Both shows featured debuts of Bob Dylan covers and Margo Price guest appearances. Greensky Bluegrass dobroist Anders Beck and Little Feat also got in on the collaborative action.

Margo Price spent five weeks on the road supporting the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Price’s time on tour opening for the 12-piece ensemble spanned July 24 through September 1 and saw many collaborative encores. On Friday at SPAC, Margo Price dueted with Susan Tedeschi on Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” Price then hopped behind the drum kit for the Joe Cocker via The Coasters’ cover of “Let’s Go Get Stoned,” which also featured members of Margo’s band. Little Feat, who also opened on Saturday while Greensky was on Friday’s bill, emerged with Price to help the TTB close Saturday’s show with a take on Leon Russell’s “Stranger In A Strange Land.”

“Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” wasn’t the only Bob Dylan cover the Tedeschi Trucks Band played at SPAC. Keyboardist Gabe Dixon led the group through the TTB debut of “Tangled Up In Blue” on Friday. Then, on Saturday, the the headliners premiered their take on Blood On The Tracks blues number “Meet Me In The Morning.” Derek Trucks‘ frothy slide fit the song perfectly as did Susan Tedeschi’s powerful vocals. Both cover debuts came early in each set.

Susan Tedeschi called up Anders Beck to lend a hand on the Derek & The Dominos classic “Keep On Growing” late in the main set on Friday. Beck and Trucks dueled before Derek focused on rhythm leaving Anders to unleash a torrent of fiery riffs. The pair connected on a lingering lead and engaged in call-and-response to bring the near 15-minute version to a close.

Tedeschi Trucks Band ended the summer leg of the Deuces Wild Tour with Margo Price on Sunday night in Gilford, New Hampshire. Price came out for a set-closing “Stranger In A Strange Land.” Margo returned for an encore of George Jones’ “Color Of The Blues” and the “Sing A Simple Song > I Want To Take You Higher” Sly Stone medley. Once again, members of Price’s backing band The Pricetags contributed to the Sly medley.
