Jaimoe, the sole surviving member of The Allman Brothers Band‘s original lineup, was among the Tedeschi Trucks Band‘s special guests on Friday (August 23) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The 80-year-old drummer teamed with former ABB bandmate Derek Trucks and the rest of the TTB for a pair of extended collaborations during the first of two Deuces Wild Tour stops at Bridgeport’s Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater.
Derek Trucks joined The Allman Brothers Band in 1999 and remained a member through the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame acts final shows in October of 2014. Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson co-founded the ABB in 1969 with guitarists Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, keyboardist Gregg Allman, bassist Berry Oakley and fellow drummer Butch Trucks.

Jaimoe emerged at the start of the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s lengthy set for a “Drums” sequence with Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell and Issac Eady that gave way to a take on Dr. John’s “I Walked On Guilded Splinters.” The legendary drummer stuck around to add to Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues” to complete a double dose of covers from The Allman Brothers Band’s live repertoire.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band moved forward sans Jaimoe and focused on songs from 2022’s I Am The Moon project and choice covers. A foray into “Mountain Jam” within “Pasaquan” and a version of “Come And Go Blues” sung by TTB keyboardist Gabe Dixon kept the music of the ABB in the spotlight. Jaimoe returned late in the set to contribute to a rousing rendition of The Allman Brothers Band classic “Dreams” before the 12-piece ensemble worked “The Storm” into “Whipping Post” as the famed drummer watched from the wings.

Margo Price opened in Bridgeport as she has been for the past month. Price and members of her band lent a hand on the evening’s “Let’s Go Get Stoned” finale after the TTB kicked off the encore with Bruce Springsteen’s “State Trooper.
