The Rolling Stones Roll Out ‘Black & Blue’ Gem For Tour Debut In Los Angeles

The Rolling Stones concluded a two-show stand at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday as part of their 2024 Hackney Diamonds Tour. The monolithic rockers broke out the rarity “Fool to Cry” from their 1976 album, Black and Blue.

“Fool to Cry” arrived in the sixth song slot following fan-voted song “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker).”

“And now we’re going to do something much more romantic,” frontman Mick Jagger said ahead of the Black and Blue cut. “We’ve never done this number on this tour I don’t think so I hope you’ll be forgiving,” Mick added.

“Fool to Cry” was indeed a tour debut. The performance was also the first since August 3, 2022 in Berlin. After The Stones played the song extensively in 1976 and a few times in ‘77, they’ve only played it 11 times since, as per SetlistFM stats.

Another notable moment in the concert came when Jagger omitted an entire verse from “Sympathy for the Devil.” The verse begins with the line “I shouted out who killed the Kennedys.” The final concert at SoFi Stadium took place shortly after an assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The rest of the concert was the usual hit filled affair including classics like “Start Me Up,” “Monkey Man,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Honkey Tonk Women,” “Miss You,” “Gimme Shelter” and set closer “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” The concert closed with the usual encore of Hackney Diamonds’ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and “Satisfaction.”
