Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts came to Fiddler’s Green just outside of Denver on Monday. The legendary singer-songwriter and his latest band broke out “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” for the first time in six years.
Neil Young finally made it to Fiddler’s on Labor Day as a date at the outdoor amphitheatre was among those canceled on Neil Young & Crazy Horse‘s Love Earth Tour in 2024 due to illness. This year, Young brought the Chrome Hearts, which includes longtime Neil collaborators in Promise of the Real Micah Nelson, Corey McCormick and Anthony LoGerfo along with Muscle Shoals vet Spooner Oldham on keys.

Neil Young dusted off “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” in the 10th song slot of his set at Fiddler’s. Neil notably debuted the beloved After the Gold Rush cut in Denver with CSNY on May 12, 1970, as per Sugar Mountain, a few months before the album came out. The Denver version on Monday was the first time Young had performed the song since September 14, 2019.
Watch Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts dust off “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” below:
Neil Young launched the concert with the recently revived “Ambulance Blues” and ahead of classic “Cowgirl in the Sand. Next, “Be the Rain,” from the 2003 Neil Young & Crazy Horse LP Greendale. Two more old favorites followed in “Southern Man” and “Ohio.”
Neil then offered the newly debuted songs “Big Crime,” aimed at Donald Trump, and “Silver Eagle.” After “Only Love Can Break Your Heart,” Young delivered Buffalo Springfield gen “Mr. Soul” and beloved 1990s solo cut “Harvest Moon.” The last half of the set also contained classics such as “Like a Hurricane” and set-closer “Old Man.” Neil Young sealed the show with “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).”
