Neil Young broke out “Long Walk Home” after over 35 years on the shelf during his Saturday night concert at Jones Beach in Wantagh, New York. The legendary rocker and The Chrome Hearts performed the Reagan-era protest halfway through their set at the Long Island venue.
“Long Walk Home” was originally released by Neil Young & Crazy Horse on their 1987 album, Life. Young changed the lyrics to the song to reference current events. He sang “From Canada to old Ukraine” at Jones Beach, instead of the “From Vietnam to old Beirut” featured on the album.
Neil Young initially announced plans to kick off his Love Earth Tour with a free concert in the Ukraine. Young then called off the show in the war-torn country due to safety concerns.
Young played “Long Walk Home” while sitting at the piano and also added harmonica to the powerful revival. “Long Walk Home” was a regular feature of Young’s concerts in 1986 and 1987, but then disappeared from setlists following a performance in Tokyo on April 30, 1989.

Another setlist surprise came late in the set at Jones Beach when Neil Young offered the Chrome Hearts debut of “Singer Without A Song.” Young hadn’t played the song in any format since October 30, 2013. “Singer Without A Song” dates back to 2012 and hasn’t been released by Young on an official studio album.
The rest of Neil Young & The Chrome Hearts’ concert at Jones Beach featured a mix of material from throughout the renowned musician’s illustrious career. “Ambulance Blues,” “Southern Man,” “Ohio,” “Harvest Moon” and “Old Man” were among the favorites worked into the 16-song main set. In typical Love Earth Tour fashion, the show ended with a “Rockin’ In The Free World” encore.
