Neil Young Abandons Ukraine Concert Plans Amid Safety Worries
“I could not in good conscience take my crew and instruments into that area.”

Earlier this month, Neil Young announced his intention to kick off his upcoming Love Earth Tour with a free concert in Ukraine. Young has now called off the show in the war-torn country due to safety concerns.
“Our concert in Ukraine is canceled,” the legendary rocker wrote on his Neil Young Archives website. “We had a good venue, close to a shelter, but the changing situation on the ground was too much. I could not in good conscience take my crew and instruments into that area. My apologies to all. Ukraine is a great country with a good leader. Slava Ukraini.”

Neil Young never confirmed a date and location for the now-scrapped concert in Ukraine. The Canadian music icon will embark on the Love Earth Tour with his new band, the Chrome Hearts, on June 18 in Rattvik, Sweden. Additional shows in Europe follow ahead of a North American leg. The trek is currently slated to end on September 15 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.
The Chrome Hearts features guitarist Micah Nelson, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, organist Spooner Oldham and bassist Corey McCormick. Young and his band are expected to release their debut album next month and previewed the LP with the single “big change.”
