Neil Young recently shared an exciting update on new music and shows in the works with his Chrome Hearts band. Young posted an entry earlier this week on NeilYoungArchives.com revealing that Chrome Hearts’ debut album has been completed and will be followed by summer tour dates in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Stylized as neil young and the chrome hearts, Neil Young is joined in the band by guitarist Micah Nelson, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, organist Spooner Oldham and bassist Corey McCormick. The quintet recently released their brash debut single, “big change.”

Neil Young recorded the album with producers Lou Adler and John Hanlon at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu. “It is in mastering now to make the vinyl, CD and digital copies. I am very happy and relieved to have this done in the short time it took. The album art has been completed and handed in with Jenice Heo. I am working on the lyric sheets now, hoping to hand-write the words and get them in, in time…” Young wrote.
“It is a happy feeling I have today, knowing I have made an album I think people will enjoy. I hope it’s out in April. That would be pretty fast,” the 79-year-old musician added. “Playing with the Chrome Hearts was a joy as we recorded song after song at Shangrila in Malibu. I wrote these songs in November and December.”
While the only date currently confirmed for the band is an appearance at Glastonbury, Young advises that will soon change and expressed his enthusiasm at having new material to perform: “They feel fresh to me and I am very happy to have this all ready for you. It won’t be long now and it will be great to have new songs to play on the road this summer in Europe, the USA and Canada. We are looking forward to that!”
Neil Young initially put together Chrome Hearts for a set at last September’s Farm Aid benefit. The group followed with a two-night stand at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York.
