Show Info

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience three emotionally-compelling compositions, all American music from different times. Dvorak’s monumental Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” was the first piece he wrote in America, pulling from the musical cultures of its indigenous people. Mezzo Soprano Allison Sanders will join the symphony in Gaber’s Ancestral Waters, a hybrid work of jazz symphonic and African music. The one-movement work by the iconic American composer Samuel Barber, First Essay is cleverly drawn from single melodic statement, setting the tone for the evening.
