On May 28, 2000, The White Stripes made their television debut with an appearance on Detroit Public Television’s Backstage Pass. Video of Jack White and Meg White’s appearance has been shared as part of an ongoing celebration of the 20th anniversary of their De Stijl studio album.

De Stijl, which translates from dutch as “the style,” was The White Stripes’ sophomore LP and was released on June 20, 2000. Jack and Meg promoted the record by performing two songs on Backstage Pass. The pair played original “Apple Blossom” from De Stijl and then closed out the show with a cover of Son House’s “Death Letter.”
