Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded a two-night stand at the Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia near Washington D.C. on Saturday. The TTB nodded to the area with a cover pairing of Billy Joel‘s “Vienna” and The Rolling Stones‘ “Sweet Virginia.”
The band led by guitarist/vocalist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks kicked off the concert with “Don’t Let Me Slide” followed by a rousing “Do I Look Worried.” The latter saw Trucks offering solos both with and without slide, tearing up the Gibson SG so hard that he broke a string. The newly debuted “I Got You” followed.

Vocalist Mike Mattison’s “Life Is Crazy” came next, ahead of an early in the set “Bound For Glory” and the title track to TTB’s four-part 2022 album, I Am The Moon. Accompanied by keyboardist Gabe Dixon on piano, Susan then offered the first verse and chorus of Billy Joel’s “Vienna,” a first for the band as per TTBase.
Derek then jumped into some warbly slide work signaling The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Virginia,” which saw Mike and Susan swapping verses. The Exile on Main St. cut also featured the TTB horns: trombonist Elizabeth Lea, trumpeter Ephraim Owens and saxophonist Kebbi Williams. The set continued with the favorite “Anyhow” before drummer Isaac Eady and Williams then led the band into “Shame” with some sax and drums action. The classic “Midnight In Harlem” followed ahead of the title track to the band’s 2013 LP, Made Up Mind. Susan then went sans guitar for a rollicking rendition of The Beatles‘ “A Little Help From My Friends” done in the style of Joe Cocker to seal the show.
