Tedeschi Trucks Band will release Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited (LIVE AT LOCKN’) on September 12 via Fantasy Records. Documenting TTB’s landmark collaboration with Leon Russell and members of Joe Cocker’s original Mad Dogs & Englishmen band, the collection is previewed with “The Letter.”
In September 2015, Tedeschi Trucks Band’s performance with Leon Russell and the Mad Dogs & Englishmen band at LOCKN’ “was a dream,” as Susan Tedeschi put it.
“I am still pinching myself over the entire experience,” she said. “The LOCKN’ Music Festival has done a tremendous job creating so many wonderful music collaborations for us. This was one for the ages. The audience was amazing and the performers and the music were all at the highest level. This is a memory I will always cherish.”

In 1970, Joe Cocker and bandleader Leon Russell led the Mad Dogs & Englishmen on one of the most legendary tours in rock ‘n’ roll. Along with Russell, original Mad Dogs members who joined TTB at LOCKN’ included Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear and Chris Stainton. Leon Russell sadly passed away just a year after the LOCKN’ set, making the moment all the more cherished for all involved.
“These were very special days that we were able to spend with Leon and the Mad Dogs,” Derek Trucks said. “There was a real sense of joy, magic and gratitude in the air from the moment everyone showed up at the first rehearsal and it just kept getting stronger, culminating in this incredible set. You could feel that this was one of those shows that you will be thinking about for the rest of your life. I feel very lucky to have been a part of this. What an honor to share the stage and music with Leon and all of those incredible musicians and people.”
TTB, Russell and the Mad Dogs were also joined by special guests such as The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson, Warren Haynes, Anders Osborne and Traffic’s Dave Mason, the latter the writer of one of Joe Cocker’s best interpretations, “Feelin’ Alright.” Additional tunes that appear on Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited include “The Weight,” “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window,” “Delta Lady,” “Cry Me a River” and “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
Also included is the Box Tops classic, “The Letter,” which TTB has shared as a preview. Watch the performance below:
In 2021, TTB offered insight on the Mad Dogs & Englishmen Tour with the documentary Learning to Live Together: The Return of Mad Dogs & Englishmen.
“The film, a unique retelling of the ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’ tour as seen through the lens of Tedeschi Trucks Band, blends archival footage with new interviews and performance and rehearsal footage from the LOCKN’ tribute set,” as per press materials.
TTB will host a special screening of the film and a Q&A on July 28 at Leon Russell’s longtime headquarters The Church Studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma. TTB’s Live in ’25 Tour will resume the next day in Tulsa before heading to Red Rocks. Scroll down for the band’s itinerary and ticket info.
