As reported, My Morning Jacket filled their Newport Folk Festival set on Friday with a bunch of special guests including Maggie Rogers, Margo Price and John Oates. The band’s visit to Newport also saw them joined by a special guest from The Muppets with additional drums and general mayhem from Animal.
Animal, who also joined Goose’s set at Newport this weekend, was the second member of The Muppets to appear with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim Jamesat Fort Adams State Park. In 2019, James dueted with Kermit The Frog on “Rainbow Connection” as part of the “If I Had A Song” all-star set. Animal’s guest spot this year featured The Muppet drummer perched next to MMJ drummer Patrick Hallahan for an energetic “One Big Holiday” set-closing performance.

Animal’s appearance with MMJ followed Rogers coming out for a joint performance of “Say You Love Me,” which marked the first time the Fleetwood Mac song written by the late Christine McVie had been played by the band. Shortly after that sit-in, Price and Oates came out to assist on a cover of Carole King’s “I Feel The Earth Move.”
