Watch Jason Isbell Bring Out An Oklahoma-Native To Sing ‘King Of Oklahoma’ At Newport

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit were back at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday to play a set at Newport Folk Festival. A pair of special guests, SistaStrings and Turnpike Troubadours‘ Evan Felker, each came out to augment a song off the band’s recently released studio album, Weathervanes.

Felker was the first to come out with frontman Jason Isbell and his bandmates. Fittingly, the Oklahoma native Felker helped sing “King Of Oklahoma,” one of the aforementioned Weathervanes tracks. Watch the Turnpike Troubadour fronting The 400 Unit via the audience-shot video below:

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit’s set at Newport heavily focused on Weathervanes, dialing up nine of the record’s 13 songs. All of the songs on the setlist, except the opener, “Cover Me Up,” came from the album released in June.

“Death Wish,” the new album’s lead single, was part of Saturday’s setlist and featured the accompaniment of SistaStrings. The sibling duo of Monique Ross (cello) and Chauntee Ross (violin) was all over Newport this weekend, sitting in with several artists including Maggie Rogers, Valerie June and Indigo De Souza, as well as participating in Margo Price’s all-star late-night tribute to John Prine.
