Goose returned to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday to perform at the venerable Newport Folk Festival. The band ended their main stage set by bringing out The Muppets’ Animal to play drums on Goose’s fitting original, “Animal.”
The collaboration came at the end of a six-song set that began with “California Magic.” The band then dug into “Silver Rising,” which they followed with “Madhuvan.” The lone cover of the set, The Band-popularized “Don’t Do It” came next. A quick run through “Lead Up,” setup the final song of the set.

Guitarist/keyboardist Peter Anspach then addressed the Newport audience and stated how happy they were to be back playing the festival for the second year in a row. He then said the last song of the set would be open to requests. At that point, the large Newport sign flanking the band fell to reveal Animal behind his drum kit. The Muppet requested Goose play “Animal,” which they soon launched into.
Animal’s mini drum kit was perched on a riser between drummer Ben Atkind and percussionist Jeff Arevalo. The drum-playing Muppet added his signature enthusiastic growls throughout the energized performance of “Animal.”
