Molly Tuttle will release a new solo album, So Long Miss Sunshine, on August 15 through Nonesuch Records. The guitarist shared the record’s lead single, “That’s Gonna Leave A Mark,” and confirmed tour dates supporting the pending release.

Tuttle’s fifth full-length album, So Long Miss Sunshine follows a pair of Grammy-winning albums Tuttle released with her band Golden Highway. The 12-track effort was recorded in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce. Tuttle wrote the bulk of the album with her partner, Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor, who also played banjo, fiddle and harmonica and sings on So Long Miss Sunshine.

“We spend so much time together, we live together, and anytime I have a song idea, or he has one, it’s just so easy to transition from whatever we’re doing into writing a song.”

The tracklist consists of 11 originals and one cover — Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s “I Love It.” Along with Joyce on multiple instruments, the album was recorded with bassist Byron House and drummers Jay Bellerose and Fred Eltringham.

“I’ve been wanting to make this record for such a long time,” Tuttle said. “Part of me was scared to do such a big departure, and that went into the album title … [she thought] ‘You know what? I’m just not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.’”

Tuttle conceived of the album’s artwork, which composites photos of the guitarist wearing different wigs, except for one picture revealing her bald head from the autoimmune condition alopecia areata. Tuttle has been affected by alopecia areata since she was three years old and is now a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.

Tuttle co-wrote “That’s Gonna Leave A Mark” with Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin.

“I wrote ‘That’s Gonna Leave a Mark’ with my friend Kevin Griffin,” Tuttle stated. “He has such a brilliant pop sensibility. We reworked it a little bit last year. It’s fun, sort of sassy, and that guitar part is one of my favorites that I play on the record.”
