Sierra Hull invited several musical friends and collaborators to her album release party on Friday night at Brooklyn Bowl Nashville. Hull marked the arrival of her latest studio LP, A Tip Toe High Wire, with a guest-filled concert featuring Béla Fleck, Molly Tuttle and others.
Friday’s celebration began with Hull playing mandolin alongside her bandmates – guitarist Shaun Richardson, fiddler Avery Merritt, bassist Erik Coveney and drummer Mark Raudabaugh – kicking the show off with “How Long” from Hull’s 2020 album, 25 Trips. The outfit rolled through “Bluegrass Concerto, Movement 3, (Pray)” before returning to 25 Trips via “Beautifully Out of Place” and “Envy.”

Hull then focused the rest of the setlist with track-by-track recreation of A Tip Toe High Wire, starting with the album opener “Boom.” Opener Stephanie Lambring was the first guest to emerge, dueting with Hull on “Muddy Water.” Hull’s husband, Justin Moses was next to sit-in, adding dobro to “Spitfire” and “Truth Be Told.”
Another talented guitarist, Molly Tuttle was next to come onstage, accompanying Hull on “Let’s Go.” Longtime Nashville area resident Béla Fleck was brought out to add the banjo part he played on the album version of “E-Tune.” Moses was back for the penultimate A Tip Toe High Wire song, “Redbird.” Album closer “Haven Hill” completed the full album play.

The set continued with “Bombshell” and Tuttle returning for “What Do You Say?” Fleck also returned and, with Tuttle still participating, augmented “Black River.” Fleck remained for the subsequent “Best Buy.” Hull wrapped the main set with Fleck collaborating on his Flecktones’ classic “Stomping Grounds,” and Moses also getting in on the action.
Hull’s always stirring cover of “Mad World” brought the show to a close with the well-received encore. The full concert can be viewed via a nugs.net on-demand replay.
