Tedeschi Trucks Band reunited with old pal Lukas Nelson on Friday at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a Houston area amphitheater. The son of Willie Nelson followed his support duties by teaming with the headliners on the last four songs of the night at the venue in The Woodlands, Texas.

Lukas Nelson, who will open for multiple portions of the 12-piece ensemble’s upcoming summer tour, was backed by his solo band on Friday. Nelson’s “Shadow Band” features bassist Corey McCormick, pedal steel guitarist Dakota Holden, fiddler Jake Simpson, drummer Max Flanders and multi-instrumentalist Eli Salus-Kleiner.

Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their 19-song main set with a run of “Future Soul,” “What In The World,” “Crazy Cryin'” and “Who Am I” — four tracks from their recently released Future Soul album. The group by led Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks dotted the frame with such favorites as “Anyhow,” “Idle Wind” and “Made Up Mind,” along with a handful of choice covers.

Lukas Nelson reemerged for a set-closing sequence linking “Leavin’ Trunk” (Sleepy John Estes) and “Volunteered Slavery” (Rashsaan Roland Kirk). Nelson then came back out with Susan Tedeschi to start the encore with a gorgeous duet on Leon Russell’s “A Song For You,” which saw them accompanied by keyboardist Gabe Dixon. The rest of the band returned to the stage for “Space Captain,” a song popularized by Joe Cocker, to end the concert.
