Track Star* Tests Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks’ Musical Knowledge

Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks appeared on Track Star*, hosted by Jack Coyne. The husband and wife duo competed on the web series to see who could name the artist first after hearing a song clip.

The first song up was Jimi Hendrix‘s “If 6 Was 9,” which saw Derek a little quicker on the draw. “He’s gonna win, he’s really smart,” Susan said at the outset of the episode.

Tedeschi and Trucks then shared some thoughts on Hendrix with Derek simply stating: “Played with Little Richard. Dropped acid and changed the world.”

Derek was once again the victor on ‘s “A Love Supreme,” a last minute addition as he was wearing a Coltrane Love Surpeme jacket. Trucks said that A Love Supreme changed his life after Col. Bruce Hampton bought him a copy.

Susan got the best of Derek on Stevie Ray Vaughan‘s “Pride and Joy,” noting the guitar legend’s unmistakable Stratocaster sound. Tedeschi also appeared on a 2001 album, Been A Long Time, by the late SRV’s renowned band Double Trouble.

Derek and Susan also went toe-to-toe on songs by Bonnie Raitt, Leon Russell, Little Feat, The Allman Brothers Band, Elmore James, B.B. King and R.L. Burnside.
