An impressive roster of musicians joined Willie Nelson at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on April 29 and 30, 2023 at a pair of star-studded concerts commemorating the outlaw country legend’s 90th birthday. A live album and concert film documenting the shows dubbed Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 Live At The Hollywood Bowl is due out through Legacy Recordings on December 15. Dave Matthews‘ performance of “Funny How Time Slips Away” from the second night of the event has been released on all DSPs today to preview the collection.

Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 Live At The Hollywood Bowl will arrive in various formats including as a 2CD+Blu-Ray deluxe edition, a complete digital edition and as a 2xLP highlights. Performances by Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, Billy Strings, Bobby Weir, Beck, Allison Russell, Norah Jones, Ziggy Marley, The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, Charley Crockett, Warren Haynes, Nathaniel Rateliff, Edie Brickell, Charlie Sexton, Orville Peck, Dwight Yoakam, Particle Kid, Daniel Lanois, Margo Price, Waylon Payne, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Lukas Nelson, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr., Tyler Childers And The Food Stamps, Tom Jones, Jack Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Sheryl Crow, George Strait, Snoop Dogg, Keith Richards and others from the two-night concert event are included in the forthcoming live album/concert film.

“We are thrilled to partner with Legacy Recordings to bring these iconic live shows that celebrated Willie’s 90th to fans around the world,” stated Blackbird Presents’ Mark Rothbaum and Keith Wortman, who organized the Willie 90 shows, in a press release. “This release captures the magic of these shows and enables audiences all around the world to experience these performances as if they were at the Hollywood Bowl with all of us.”

Dave Matthews took the Hollywood Bowl stage on Sunday, April 30. Matthews honored his fellow Farm Aid board of directors member with a solo take on “Funny How Time Slips Away.” Willie Nelson wrote the song which was originally released by country singer Billy Walker in 1961. Nelson issued his own version on his debut studio album, …And Then I Wrote, the following year.
