Valerie June Shares Final ‘Brighter Blue’ Preview & Confirms 2027 Spring Tour Dates

Valerie June released the final advance single off her upcoming EP, Brighter Blue. “Trouble In Mind” is a take on a blues standard and arrives alongside news of 2027 Fall Tour dates for the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist.

Brighter Blue is due out this Friday, September 11 via Concord. The album, which sees June returning to the American Songbook, saw its first preview in July with “Smokestack,” combining the blues standards “Smokestack Lightning” and “In The Pines.”

The second Brighter Blue single “Trouble In Mind,” was originally written by jazz pianist Richard M. Jones and first recorded in 1924. Valerie June’s interpretation of the song features Sam Amidon, who provides fiddle, banjo and backing vocals. June further detailed her rendition of “Trouble In Mind.”

“The most transformative moments of my life have come when I found the courage to face my fears—to feel them fully and discover the stillness that remains when the storm passes,” she said. “There is perhaps no better song to capture the journey from hardship toward happiness than the old blues song ‘Trouble In Mind.’ Rooted in sorrow yet reaching toward hope, it reminds us that even in our darkest moments, something within us continues to sing.”

Fresh off a stint with Ani DiFranco, Valerie June has a slate of fall tour dates on the horizon. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist will deliver more headline dates in spring 2027. The tour will see June visiting several City Winery in the Eastern U.S., kicking off in Philadelphia on March 13.

Boston, St. Louis and Nashville are also among the stops. The headline tour is set to wrap at City Winery Atlanta on March 24.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 11.
