Watch Ivan Neville, Lindsay Lou, Mimi Naja & Greensky Bluegrass’ Joyous ‘Yes We Can Can’ Performance In New Orleans

Greensky Bluegrass rolled into New Orleans for a show at the Joy Theater on Saturday night. The string band enlisted the assistance of several special guests, including NOLA’s own Ivan Neville and a pair of recent collaborators, Lindsay Lou and Fruition‘s Mimi Naja, among others.

After playing an opening set to start the night, Lou emerged near the end of Greensky’s first set and brought with her Neville. Lou added vocals and Neville sang and played keyboard on “In Control.”

Naja, another recent regular GSBG guest who is performing as a part of Lou’s band, then came onstage, accompanied by additional members of Lou’s band, Heather Gillis and Michelle Pietrafitta. The newly arriving trio joined Lou and Neville in assisting Greensky Bluegrass on the group’s first-time performance of late New Orleans songwriting/piano legend Allen Toussaint’s resilient anthem “Yes We Can Can.”

Lou resurfaced onstage two more times before Saturday’s concert ended. She added additional vocals to a second-set performance of “Forget Everything.” Lou was also tasked with helping to sing the encore, which was the rarely played 1980s classic “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”
