18-year-old guitarist Grace Bowers made a surprise guest appearance with the Tedeschi Trucks Band on Friday at the Riverfront Revival festival in North Charleston, South Carolina. Bowers sat-in with the TTB on the final two songs of their two-hour headlining set.
Susan Tedeschi recently pointed to Bowers, who performed at the festival before the TTB, as a rising star that has caught her ear. “There’s a girl called Grace Bowers, who is probably 17 years old now. She’s got this crazy blonde curly hair and she’s very pretty and very sweet – but she can rip it and she has a nice understanding of chords,” Tedeschi told Guitar World. “I think, because she’s so young, she could really get somewhere in the next 10 years. She really could be a household name.”

The Tedeschi Trucks Band opened at the festival curated and hosted by Darius Rucker with a cover of George Harrison’s “Wah-Wah.” After reeling off originals “Anyhow,” “Do I Look Worried” and “Ain’t That Something,” the 12-piece ensemble worked through a take on the Prince hit “1999.” Next came “Part Of Me” before vocalist Alecia Chakour shined on Aretha Franklin’s “It Ain’t Fair” and Tedeschi and keyboardist Gabe Dixon alternated lead vocals on The Allman Brothers Band classic “Dreams.”
The next portion of the TTB’s Riverfront Revival set was devoted to staples “Yes We Will,” “Midnight In Harlem” and “I Want More” before Tedeschi fronted a medley of “Angel From Montgomery” and “Sugaree.” An extended “Made Up Mind” followed. Susan Tedeschi then introduced Grace Bowers who ripped it up on covers of Prince’s “D.M.S.R.” and Joe Tex’s “Show Me.” The latter saw Bowers engage in call-and-response with Derek Trucks.
