Catskill Chill :: 9.23-25.16 :: New Minglewood :: Lakewood, PA

The annual Catskill Chill music festival took place at New Minglewood campground in Lakewood, Pennsylvania last weekend. The festivities began with a pre-party on Thursday, September 22 featuring appearances by Jimkata, Aqueous, Trakstar and Twiddle whose set included a sit-in by Scott Hannay of Mister F who was part of Friday’s lineup. Also on the bill for the official opening day was West End Blend, funk icons George Clinton & Parliment Funkadelic headliner Mike Gordon who offered a pair of first-time played songs and tribute band Pink Talking Fish who were joined by Tim Palmieri on guitar for Pink Floyd and Talking Heads covers. PTF also teamed up with Kung Fu for a special collaborative performance that honored Prince and David Bowie.

Saturday’s collaborations included Dopaquz Yacht Rock with Dopapod and Turkuaz pairing together for a set of classics by the likes of Toto, Hall & Oates and Michael McDonald, as well as the Chillfam All-Stars tribute to Michael Jackson featuring members of PTF, Kung Fu, Turkuaz, Particle, Eric Krasno Band and Deep Banana Blackout. There was also a 1980s set played by The Heavy Pets and a tribute to Primus staged by LeSpecial, as well as performances by Turkuaz, Cabinet, Ryan Montbleau Band and Formula 5.

The final day of Catskill Chill was headlined by Greensky Bluegrass who welcomed steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier during their set. Collier had started Sunday with a set fronting his NY Get Down with members of Turkuaz and Dopapod. Pigeons Playing Ping Pong were busy with an afternoon set with Turkuaz members sitting-in and later on they played an all-covers set with guests including Tom Hamilton and Elise Testone joining in. Hamilton also played a set with his American Babies earlier in the day and there were also appearances by Particle, Dopapod, Broccoli Samurai, Keller Williams Grateful Grass, Electron, Break Science, Perpetual Groove and others. Particle and The Werks joined forces for a cover-filled set as PariWerks and the final day also featured a tribute to Led Zeppelin fronted by Testone.
