Watch Eddie Vedder Perform ‘All The Way’ At Chicago Cubs 2016 Reunion

Members of the 2016 World Series champion Chicago Cubs team reassembled at the “Lovable Reunion Live” event at The Chicago Theatre on Thursday night. Lifelong Cubs fan and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder appeared at the celebration and performed his team anthem “All The Way.”

The “Loveable Reunion Live” was hosted by Cubs broadcaster Boog Sciambi. Members of the 2016 Cubs team who attended the reunion included former manager Joe Maddon, and players Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, Kyle Hendricks, Jason Heyward, Miguel Montero, Dexter Fowler, Travis Wood, John Lackey and others, including Anthony Rizzo and David Ross, who co-host the Lovable Reunion podcast.

Episodes of the Loveable Reunion feature guests who were part of the 2016 Cubs team reminiscing about the championship season. Rizzo has told a story about the post-game celebration at Lester’s house that Vedder attended after the Cubs clinched a World Series spot.

The former first baseman’s father was also at the party and had been playing acoustic guitar before Vedder took over and played a few songs. Rizzo’s dad now boasts that he once “opened for Eddie Vedder.”

Another Loveable Reunion episode featured former Cubs front office leader Theo Epstein, who revealed more about the night after the Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to bring the World Series to Wrigley Field for the first time since 1945. Epstein recalled:

“We had the awesome party at Lester’s house that night — that was legendary, and Eddie playing and everyone grabbing the guitar and everything. And then actually, Eddie and I went back after Lester’s. We went back to Wrigley … and the National League trophy was sitting there in VJ’s office … We wouldn’t touch it. I’m staring at it like, ‘Oh my god, the World Series is going to be played here in like a week.’

“Then we’re throwing batting practice to each other. Then me, Eddie, and a couple other guys, we go out to center field and we’re just laying in the grass in center field, looking up at the scoreboard and the clock and the sun – it’s now like 6:30 in the morning or whatever, 7 – [and] the sun starts rising above the clock.

“I’m just like, ‘Holy fuck, we just won the pennant and we’re about to have the World Series at Wrigley Field.’ So that’s what I was thinking. And then, how are we gonna win four more games.”

Vedder wrote the hopeful “All The Way” at the request of late Cubs legend Ernie Banks when the pair attended an MLB Fantasy Camp in 2007. The song came to fruition in 2016 when the Cubs won the World Series by defeating the Cleveland Guardians (who were then known as the Indians). The 2016 World Series championship was the Chicago Cubs’ first title since 1908.
