Eddie Vedder served as the headliner this past Sunday at the baseball-themed Innings Festival at Tempe Beach Park in Tempe, Arizona. In addition to his set, the lifelong Chicago Cubs fan was a surprise guest on Ryan Dempster’s Off The Mound talk show at the festival.

The Pearl Jam frontman chatted with the former Major League pitcher and longtime Cub about Chicago’s 2016 World Series-winning run. The musician discussed the experience of watching the final out along with declaring that growing up a Cubs fan was “an intense and truly remarkable character builder.” Vedder also shared a story about his grandfather taking to him to Wrigley Field for the first time calling it a “Wizard Of Oz moment” seeing the field for the first time after only watching games on a black and white television.
