Marcus King Covers Wilco’s ‘Either Way’ For 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Series

Marcus King covered Wilco's “Either Way” for a video series aimed at reducing stigma around mental health and encouraging people to seek support. The performance is part of Song That Found Me At The Right Time, a series from the nonprofit Sounds Of Saving and Vibrant Emotional Health, the organization that administers the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

King used the segment to speak candidly about his own approach to mental health and therapy. “The more we speak about it, the more open we are about it, the less stigma there is to it,” he said. He also pushed back on the instinct to cancel therapy sessions when they feel inconvenient: “If you feel like you want to reschedule it, that means you probably need it the most.”

The guitarist and vocalist then discussed his song selection. “The song that found me, that I’ve really connected with in a profound way is the song ‘Either Way’ by Wilco,” King said of the opening track from Wilco’s 2007 album Sky Blue Sky.

“Aside from the production being really masterful and really interesting and taking a lot of unexpected turns, musically it really gets to me,” King explained. “I’d never played the song before until today.”
