Dinosaur Jr. resumed a seven-show residency celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1993 album Where You Been on Tuesday night at Brooklyn’s the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The trio was joined by Kim Deal for The Breeders and Pixies classics as well as a Dinosaur Jr. original late in the second set after The Hold Steady‘s Craig Finn and Tad Kubler sat-in on “The Wagon.”
The band — guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph — have welcomed special guests at each of the first four shows of the Brooklyn residency as well as a November run in London commemorating their fifth official studio album. Guests in Brooklyn included Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock and The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser at the opening show on Friday, Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule and Kurt Vile on Saturday as well as Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and a second appearance by Vile on Sunday.

Dinosaur Jr. devoted last night’s first set to a complete performance of Where You Been. Finn and Kubler, fresh off The Hold Steady’s Massive Nights 2023 run at nearby Brooklyn Bowl, emerged on vocals and guitar respectively for Geen Mind cut “The Wagon” following the second set-opening “Little Fury Things.” Deal then came out with guitar in hand to sing “Tarpit” off Dinosaur Jr.’s 1987 LP You’re Living All Over Me.
Kim Deal co-founded both the Pixies and The Breeders. Deal stuck around to lead Dinosaur Jr. through The Breeders’ “Divine Hammer” and the Pixies’ “Gigantic.” The former is featured on Last Splash, a Breeders album that also was released in 1993, while the latter saw Deal swap guitar for bass. The Breeders recently unveiled a version of “Divine Hammer” sung by J Mascis. The guitarist revealed he met Kim Deal at a party in 1988.
