Watch Kurt Vile Front Dinosaur Jr. On Raucous The Stooges Cover

As reported, Dinosaur Jr. held a concert on Saturday at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn featuring a guest appearance by Warren Haynes. The concert, part of a seven-night residency in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the trio’s 1993 album Where You Been, also saw guitarist Kurt Vile sit-in with Dinosaur Jr. for a two-song collaboration that included a cover by The Stooges.

Vile and Haynes’ appearance on Saturday in Brooklyn followed Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock and The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser joining Dinosaur Jr. at Friday’s residency-opening concert. Vile returned on Sunday night for a second sit-in at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and was followed by a guest spot by Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo.

Vile’s Saturday sit-in began with his fronting a performance of Dinosaur Jr.’s “Crumble” from their 2007 album, Beyond. Dinosaur Jr. guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph were then led by Vile – who went without a guitar – on a fierce cover of The Stooges’ “No Fun.”

Vile’s appearance was followed the emergence of Haynes, whose time onstage included covers by The Cure and Neil Young, as well as Dinosaur Jr.’s classic “Forget The Swan.”

After taking tonight off, Dinosaur Jr.’s Music Hall of Williamsburg residency resumes on Tuesday, December 5, with additional shows on Wednesday, December 6; Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8. More guests are expected at each show, which, like Saturday’s concert, will feature a complete performance of Where You Been.
