The Black Crowes and Tedeschi Trucks Band brought their respective tours together Monday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, with members of both bands joining forces for a three-song collaborative encore. The concert marked a collision between The Black Crowes and Whiskey Myers’ Southern Hospitality Tour and Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Future Soul Tour.

Whiskey Myers opened the night before TTB delivered a set that mixed staples, covers and improvisational excursions. Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their performance with “Got My Mojo Workin’” and “Do I Look Worried” before working through “Who Am I,” “Hero” and “I Want More” > “Willie The Pimp.” The band also offered “What In The World,” “Future Soul” and “Ohio,” which included a tease of “Machine Gun.”

The TTB set continued with “Bound For Glory” and a medley of Sly & The Family Stone classics “You Can Make It If You Try” and “Everyday People.” An “Isaac & Kebbi” jam then flowed into Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” and a rendition of Jeff Beck’s “Beck’s Bolero” to close out the set.

The Black Crowes followed with a set anchored by songs from throughout their catalog, including staples “Remedy,” “Jealous Again,” “My Morning Song,” “Thorn In My Pride,” “Hard To Handle,” “Soul Singing,” “She Talks To Angels” and “Twice As Hard.”

The real surprise came when the bands returned for an encore previewed a few weeks back at Red Rocks.

Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi and the rest of TTB joined The Black Crowes for a performance of The Rolling Stones’ “Loving Cup.” The collaboration featured Trucks and Tedeschi teaming with The Crowes alongside Mike Mattison, Mark Rivers, Alecia Chakour, Gabe Dixon, Isaac Eady, Elizabeth Lea, Emmanuel Echem and Kebbi Williams.

The expanded lineup, with TTB drummer Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell added to the mix, then tackled “Soul Shake,” a song neither band had previously performed. The tune was originally released as a single by Peggy Scott and Jo Jo Benson in 1968, while the version performed Monday was based on Delaney & Bonnie’s rendition from their 1969 album To Bonnie From Delaney.

The collaborative encore concluded with “Space Captain,” bringing the Hollywood Bowl concert to a close with Trucks, Tedeschi and members of both bands sharing the stage.
