Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard Covers Björk As Part Of ‘Live From Home’ Weekly Finale

Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard was among the first musicians to perform livestreams regularly when the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic hit America as his daily Live From Home series ran for two weeks in March. Gibbard then changed to a weekly format, but on Thursday presented the last weekly installment which included a number of originals as well as a cover of Björk‘s “All Is Full Of Love.”
Ben’s wife, Rachel, had the honor of selecting the songs Gibbard would play for his Live From Home weekly finale. The Bremerton, Washington native kicked off his set with a run of DCFC originals from various eras in “St. Peter’s Cathedral” off 2011’s Codes And Keys, “Expo ’86” from 2003’s Transatlanticism, Plans (2005) track “Brothers On A Hotel Bed,” early favorite “Your Bruise” off 1998’s Something About Airplanes and “No Room In Frame” off the 2015 LP Kintsugi.
Gibbard continued the 55-minute livestream by answering a series of questions posed by viewers. Ben discussed why he picks certain songs to cover, a rival band during Death Cab’s early days, a crazy fan story, his favorite trail in Washington State and more. He then performed “This Place Is A Prison” from his The Postal Service collaboration with Jimmy Tamborello. Next up was “This Place Is A Prison” before a live performance of his latest single — “Proxima B.” The set concluded with “405” from Death Cab’s 2000 studio album We Have The Facts And We’re Voting Yes and Ben’s take on “All Is Full Of Love” by Björk.
The good news is that Ben Gibbard revealed he will keep Live From Home going. While he didn’t reveal when the series will return or how frequently he will play, he noted “it won’t be too long” until the next one. “I want to make things that you like and brighten your days” and “make you feel a little less alone and a little more connected to human beings,” Gibbard said.
