Watch Wilco Spot ‘California Stars’ With Courtney Marie Andrews In The Netherlands

Wilco settled in at TivoliVrendenburg in Utrecht, Netherlands on Sunday and Monday for the only two-night stand of their month-long European tour. Courtney Marie Andrews opened both shows and sat-in with the headliners during each encore.

While 12 repeats were played on both nights, Wilco did have a few treats in store for Dutch fans when it came to the setlists. Sunday’s show featured tour debuts of “The Universe” and “Mystery Binds” from 2022’s Cruel Country as well as Ode To Joy single “Everyone Hides.” Last night the band trotted out “I’ll Fight” off Wilco The Album and oldie “Monday” from 1996’s Being There for the first time this tour.

Additionally, Wilco kicked off their set on Monday with “Hell Is Chrome,” a gem found on their 2004 LP A Ghost Is Born that had been shelved since the Solid Sound Festival in 2019. “Hell Is Chrome” was played two other times in 2019 following a five-year absence from the rotation. Wilco previewed their forthcoming Cousins album by performing lead single “Evicted” late in each set.

Courtney Marie Andrews emerged both nights after Wilco began each encore with Cruel Country track “Falling Apart (Right Now).” The acclaimed singer-songwriter added to “California Stars” on Sunday and Monday. Last night’s version also featured her bandmates Sean Mullins and Taylor Zachry on percussive instruments. Andrews provided harmony vocals and sang the second verse of the lyrics written by Woody Guthrie.

Last night Courtney Marie Andrews stuck around to duet with Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy on “You And I.” She handled the part recorded by Feist for the studio version found on 2009’s Wilco (The Album). Wilco closed out both shows with a pair of fan favorites. “Box Full Of Letters” and “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” ended Sunday’s show, while the run concluded with “Monday” and “Outtasite (Outta Mind)” last night.
