Watch Vulfpeck Record Songs For New Album Live At The UC Theatre In Berkeley

Vulfpeck will wrap a three-day, six show run at UC Theatre in Berkeley, California tonight (September 20). In April, the band announced they would be recording their new album, now titled Clarity of Cal, live at the Berkeley shows and subsequent concerts at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

Wednesday’s late show in Berkeley saw Vulfpeck — Jack Stratton, Theo Katzman, Joe Dart, Woody Goss, Cory Wong, Joey Dosik and Antwaun Stanley — performing the album along with some older favorites. Vulf opened with two of the aforementioned favorites, “Conscious Club” and “Cory Wong.”

Vulf then got into the new stuff. After introducing guest Charles Jones on B3 organ along with vocalist Antwaun Stanley and collaborator/vocalist Jacob Jeffries, Jack Stratton prefaced the first song by saying, “You’re gonna hear these tunes and you’ll think, ‘oh this is nice, this is good.’ Then they will haunt you. They will haunt you after a few listens. This one’s by Jacob and myself. This one’s ‘Big Dipper.’”

Vulf in various configurations then headed through Clarity of Cal. Stanley and Jeffries stuck around for a tune called “In Real Life.”

Theo Katzman then hopped behind the upright piano to lead the ensemble through his “Tender Defender.”

Clarity of Cal will also include a new funky banger from bassist Joe Dart. Check that one out:

Stanley and Jeffries then helmed “The Heist,” a tune about the 1911 heist of the Mona Lisa.

Woody Goss will have the penultimate cut on Clarity of Cal, an untitled song with some smooth sax from Joey Dosik. Watch “Track 9”:

The set came to a close with a pair of favorites, “Back Pocket” and “Christmas In L.A.” The former saw an outstanding acapella version followed by the full band version. The full band version saw the audience showing off their acapella skills.
