Phish’s Mike Gordon Makes Surprise Appearance At eTown Hall Ahead Of Dick’s Run

Darrell Scott stopped by eTown Hall in Boulder, Colorado for a performance on Thursday. In the area for Phish‘s three-night run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, bassist Mike Gordon dropped in on the session to jam with Scott and eTown host Nick Forster.

A purveyor of roots music and acclaimed singer-songwriter, Darrell Scott has toured/recorded with Robert Plant, Steve Earle and others. Beyoncé, The Chicks and Brad Paisley are among the artists who have interpreted his songs.

Scott’s eTown play saw the musician kicking things off with “In The Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad)” and also offering the favorite “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive.” Nick Forster joined Scott following “Harlan” for a take on Townes Van Zandt‘s “White Freight Liner Blues.”

Mike Gordon then made his first appearance with Scott, where he peeled off a prickly bass solo on the Johnny Cash classic “Big River” to wrap the first set. Gordon and Forster also joined Darrell for an extended sit-in during the second set including performances of “It’s The Whiskey That Eases The Pain,” “Weary Blues From Waiting,” “Born To Fly” and “Wayfaring Pilgrim.”
