Umphrey’s McGee’s Brendan Bayliss Covers Ween, moe. & More For ‘Coke Studio Sessions’

Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss played a set for BeApp & Coca Cola’s Coke Studio Sessions livestream series on Monday night. The hour-long performance included originals plus covers of Ween’s “Even If You Don’t,” moe.’s “Nebraska” and more.

Brendan opened in the midst of “August,” which he paired with fellow UM original “Cut The Cable.” Bayliss then worked “Alex’s House” into a take on “Even If You Don’t” from Ween’s 2000 studio album, White Pepper. Next, the guitarist paid tribute to moe. by covering “Nebraska” before taking a request in the form of Harry Chapin’s “Cats In The Cradle.”

Bayliss returned to original material for a gorgeous rendition of “Upward” and then covered Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.” Brendan went on to name check the set’s sponsor with a brief run through “Weird Al” Yankovic’s “Yoda” parody of the Kinks’ classic “Lola.” From there, the co-founding member of Umphrey’s McGee served up a solo acoustic “Half Delayed,” dug in on Christopher Cross’ Yacht Rock gem “Sailing” and performed “The Weight Around” from UM’s 2006 studio album, Safety In Numbers.

The penultimate song of the set was a cover of Ryan Adams’ “Magnolia Mountain.” Brendan then ended his performance by showing off his falsetto vocals on “Debra” by Beck. Watch Brendan Bayliss’ Coke Studio Session below:
