Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss continued his Wine Not? livestream series on Friday night. Bayliss treated the internet to a Father’s Day set which included covers from Cat Stevens, Neil Young and Pearl Jam along with an UM rarity.

Brendan began by wishing Paul Busby a happy birthday. “I have nothing nice to say about Paul,” Bayliss joked, “but let’s just wish him a happy birthday.” He then offered a caveat about the show saying that their friends/neighbors were moving so they had been “day drinking” since 3 p.m. and said that “whatever happens in the next 44 minutes, let’s just keep it between us.” Brendan got into the music with a relatively new Umphrey’s song, “Whistle Kids,” debuted by UM in early 2018, as per All Things Umphreys. Bayliss then headed into George Michael’s “Father Figure” ahead of two tunes from he and the late great Jeff Austin’s project 30db in “Always Up” and “One Man Show,” which he dedicated to Jeff and his family.

The Cat Stevens classic “Father & Son” from his iconic 1970 album Tea For The Tillerman came next ahead of UM’s “No Diablo” which segued into Sublime’s “Santeria.” BB kept the Umphrey’s rolling with “Similar Skin” followed by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Breaking The Girl.” Bayliss then treated the virtual audience to the Umphrey’s McGee rarity, “Never Cease,” which is usually sung by guitarist Jake Cinninger and has only been played a total of nine times since 2003 and hasn’t been played in over a decade. Brendan’s wife Annie Bayliss then joined in on the feel-good Smokey Robinson classic “Cruisin’” with Brendan continuing on with Neil Young’s “Out On The Weekend” and Peal Jam’s “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town” both of which featured Brendan’s buddy Tony on harmonica. Annie Bayliss would join the duo for the closing song, “Susanah,” from the 30db catalog.
