Trey Anastasio Band Performs ‘Mozambique’ At The Beacon Jams: Pro-Shot Video
Trey Anastasio unveiled pro-shot video featuring “Mozambique” from his final The Beacon Jams livestream concert, which took place at The Beacon Theatre in New York City on November 27. “Mozambique,” like most songs played at the eighth and last The Beacon Jams performance, featured the full Trey Anastasio Band.
Anastasio debuted “Mozambique” during the lone 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes concert in 1998. The song, which Trey penned with longtime TAB members Russ Lawton and Tony Markellis, was a staple of the trio’s first tour in 1999 and has remained in heavy rotation since. Phish initially performed “Mozambique” on September 9, 1999 but the song disappeared from the quartet’s repertoire by the end of the month.
“Mozambique” serves a showcase for the TAB horn section in its current iteration. Trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick, saxophonist James Casey and trombonist Natalie Cressman each had a chance to solo during the version played at The Beacon, which came in the three-slot after the debut of “Just A Touch” and the full TAB debut of “Carini.”
Over $1 million was raised for the Divided Sky Fund during The Beacon Jams. Proceeds will go towards the establishment of an addiction treatment facility in Vermont.
