CHVRCHES will issue their first new studio album in more than five years, All The King’s Men, on January 22, 2027 through Futures Music Group. Today, the acclaimed Scottish trio shared news of a 2027 Winter Tour in North America, the UK and Ireland.
All The King’s Men follows CHVRCHES’ 2021 album, Screen Violence. After concluding the tour around Screen Violence, CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty took a pause but agreed “that when they returned, their next chapter had to challenge and excite them,” as per a press release.
That next chapter is All The King’s Men. The press materials further detailed how the trio brought their individual experiences in the interim between albums to inform their new record:
In the intervening years all three members were consciously and unconsciously absorbing material for their return. On his frequent trips back to Scotland to spend time with his mother, Doherty had reconnected with gritty British cinema by auteurs like Shane Meadows and Ken Loach – not incidentally the ones who stare down the barrel of the UK’s worst social issues – and UK artists like Massive Attack, Siouxsie & The Banshees and PJ Harvey. Meanwhile, Mayberry had done her 10,000 hours of sessions and leveled up as a lyricist, and came looking to make music that showcases a fresh storytelling quality and vocal range, and Cook – still living in the band’s Scotland home base – had started to reject electronics in favor of writing with acoustic instruments, and was listening to Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and Incredible String Band.
While they used their differing experiences, CHVRCHES cut All The King’s Men together in Glasgow, eschewing the remote working they employed on Screen Violence.
“They knew recording in-person and in Scotland was exactly the environment necessary for experimentation on this record,” the press release noted.
CHVRCHES began previewing All The King’s Men in September with the release of the 11-track LP’s opening salvo, “Roses.” Check it out below:
CHVRCHES kick off their North American tour on February 13 at Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia. Stops include Brooklyn Steel, The Anthem in Washington D.C. and Chicago’s Salt Shed, among others, before the leg wraps on March 14 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
The trio returns to Glasgow to kick off the UK/Ireland trek on April 23 at O2 Academy. The run will also stop in Aberdeen, Dundee, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Norwich. The UK leg comes to a close on May 6 at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London.
